Remote Learning Outline

St Leonard's Remote Learning 2021

This is an outline of our remote learning arrangements for the latest lockdown. Our remote learning is aligned with our in-school teaching and, wherever possible, learners at home will be completing the same lessons as their classmates in school. Our remote learning is designed to meet the guidelines set out by the government of 3 hours of provision for Key Stage 1 and 4 hours for Key Stage 2.

  1. Accessing Learning

  • Please access remote learning through Microsoft Teams. If you have any technical difficulties, please see the help video uploaded to the school website at:

https://www.stleonards.devon.sch.uk/help-with-remote-learning/

  • If you are still running into problems, please email our dedicated technical support address at:  online.support@stcmat.org

  • If you are struggling to access remote learning due to limited access to suitable devices or internet at home, please get in touch and we will be able to help.

     2. Remote Leaning Content

Foundation Stage Teachers will aim to provide:

  • A daily story

  • A 20 minute phonics session

  • A maths session

  • An additional activity covering handwriting and guided reading

Key Stage 1 Teachers will aim to provide:

  • A welcome message each day, outlining the day’s learning

  • A maths lesson

  • An English lesson

  • An additional lesson covering the breadth of the curriculum (e.g. science)

  • At least two of these lessons will include an accompanying video

Key Stage 2 Teachers will aim to provide:

  • A welcome message each day, outlining the day’s learning

  • A maths lesson

  • An English lesson

  • An additional lesson covering the breadth of the curriculum (e.g. science)

  • At least two of these lessons will include an accompanying video

  • Access to additional reading lessons, spelling and times tables

These lessons will take a number of different forms, and may require children to complete online assignments. Examples of this may include: taking part in assessments or spending a longer period of time working on a project.

As part of our offer, we aim for Mr Doku to provide a PE session for all learners once a week and Mrs Evans to provide a music lesson every other week. These videos will be shared on your usual Teams page.

     3. Face to Face Sessions

  • We are in the process of setting up a school Zoom account to enable weekly, whole-school worship for remote learners. Please ensure you have read the home/school agreement and filled in the online form to give permission for your child to attend.

  • We then aim to begin weekly, year-group catch-up sessions to give remote learners the opportunity to see their teachers and share their hard work with their classmates.

     4. Expectations and Engagement

  • We understand that in these difficult times, every family has different needs for remote learning. The provision we have offered is designed to minimise the negative impact this lockdown has on children’s learning. Therefore, where possible, children should aim to complete all the work they have been set. However, mental wellbeing needs to be the priority so please complete what you can manage as a family and if you are feeling overwhelmed please get in touch.

  • If we are worried about your child’s engagement, in the first instance, the class teacher will give you a ring to see how we can help.

  • If you are concerned about your child’s engagement, please contact the school and we will get in touch to offer support.

     5. Feedback

  • Teachers will acknowledge all home learning and will aim to provide more detailed feedback every other day or where appropriate.

     6. Beyond the Learning

  • Maintaining physical and mental health remains extremely important during this period of lockdown. We recommend that you find time each day to be physically active.

  • In addition, on our school website under ‘Safeguarding’ there is a section on supporting mental health and wellbeing that contains a wealth of additional information.

  • We recognise that different families work in different ways, but if you would like help creating a timetable for your remote learning please get in touch.
